Boris Chen takes select expert ranking data from FantasyPros and passes it through a statistical clustering algorithm — a Gaussian mixture model — which finds players ranked similarly and discovers the natural tiers in the data.
The output is a set of simple weekly charts for setting a lineup: favor higher-tier players, and when choosing between players in the same tier, the model says it is close to a coin flip.
